WELCOME

The Foundation Alcalde Zoilo Ruiz-Mateos, created in 1978 with the patronage of the Ruiz-Mateos Jiménez de Tejada family, has as its main objectives the promotion and development of cultural activities by organizing the socalles “Villa de Rota” contests and the danations received from artists exhibiting their works at the Foundation Art Gallery that the presen Contemporary  Art collection has been made up.

This constitudes nowadays an extensive art collection wich is being shown in the Museum Ruiz-Mateos since opened its doors on 4 February 2005. This museum gathers a total of 102 works composed of oil paintings, watercolors, engravings and sculptures, and includes all first prizes awarded in the course of the national contests “Villa de Rota” as well as individual donations received.

The museum is located in the premises of an old manorhouse built as far back as 1865, property of the Ruiz-Mateos family. The manor-house was remodeled, however keeping its original structure, and adapted to the present condition of this modern museum.
